چکیده

This thesis investigates several issues in data and computation modeling for scientific problem solving envi-ronments (PSEs). A PSE is viewed as a software system that provides (i) a library of simulation components,(ii) experiment management, (ii) reasoning about simulations and data, and (iv) problem solving abstrac-tions. Three specific ideas, in functionalities (ii)-(iv), form the contributions of this thesis. These includethe EMDAG system for experiment management, the BSML markup language for data interchange, and theuse of data mining for conducting non-trivial parameter studies. This work emphasizes data modeling andmanagement, two important aspects that have been largely neglected in modern PSE research. All studiesare performed in the context of S4W, a sophisticated PSE for wireless system design. This work was supported by National Science Foundation grants EIA-9974956, EIA-9984317, and EIA-0103660.

Gravity acceleration at the sea surface derived from satellite altimetry data using harmonic splines

Gravity acceleration data have grand pursuit for marine applications. Due to environmental effects, marine gravity observations always hold a high noise level. In this paper, we propose an approach to produce marine gravity data using satellite altimetry, high-resolution geopotential models and harmonic splines. On the one hand, harmonic spline functions have great capability for local gravity ...

Effects of Interruptible Load on Decision Making of a Distribution Company in Competitive Environments

The main goal of this paper is to present a new day-ahead energy acquisition model for a distribution company (Disco) in a competitive electricity market environment with Interruptible Load (IL). The work formulates the Disco energy acquisition model as a bi-level optimization problem with some of real issues, and then studies and designs a Genetic Algorithm (GA) of this optimization problem to...

Problem Solving Environments for Partial Differential Equation Based Applications (Ph.D. Thesis)

Problem solving environments represent the next generation of scientific computing software. This thesis deals with four aspects of building problem solving environments for partial differential equation based applications: software architecture of development frameworks, high level languages, computational intelligence, and integrating experimentation and computation. The software infrastructu...
